<p>Well to start off I applied to a few UC’s, a couple CSU’s and in the end I decided Pomona was the best school and seemed like a nice campus and a good place to go to so I chose it as a Major in Computer Science.</p>
<p>Today I received emails saying I have been accepted to UCR and UC Merced (Neither of which I applied for) and now I have to go back and at least consider these colleges versus Pomona.</p>
<p>So I’m looking for a few insights on at least some of the following factors:</p>
<p>Campus Life: I hear Pomona is mostly dead and UCR is a party (I’ll be on campus)
Overall School Perception: Pretty hard to justify a UC versus a CSU even if it is a low end UC.
My degree: Engineering at Cal Poly is very good but is it worth it going to a UC since it is in fact a UC school and regarded higher than a CSU?</p>
<p>Any insight on these three schools is much appreciated.</p>

<p>I personally wouldn’t pay over $10,000 in fees for either one of those two universities. They gave you admissions (eventhough you didn’t apply to them) to those two for a reason don’t you think? Plus, about 90% of the students at Cal Poly Pomona gain admissions to UCs.</p>

<p>Going to a UC just for the sake that it’s a UC is not a good enough reason. Go to the school that is better for the major. I would also be leery of getting accepted to a university you didn’t apply for. It just means there isn’t enough demand for the campus and they’re trying to secure their funding from the state. Cal Poly Pomona is turning away applicants at a record rate this year while UCR and UCM are getting desperate. For those reasons alone, I’d say go to Cal Poly Pomona. They’re also better for your major. </p>
<p>CPP is also requiring non local freshmen to live on campus and with the cool new dorms they just built, the campus residential population will grow to nearly 4,000 students. Broncos also just won the Div 2 basketball championship, so school spirit next year will be on the up and up!!! Good Luck.</p>
<p>UCR also has the dubious distinction of being the 6th least happy campus in the country.</p>

<p>Just visited UCR today and it seemed ok with a good amount of social activity going on but it was nothing beyond what I would imagine.</p>
<p>I think i’ve decided on CPP, partly on what the previous poster said and partly due to how highly regarded its engineering school is in comparison to these two other schools.</p>

<p>Cal Poly Pomona is well-known for mechanical and industrial engineering and they focus on hands-on experiments. Surprisingly, some of Cal Poly Pomona engineers have the same skill levels as UC Berkeley engineers. That’s how good their engineering program is. So many companies near Cal Poly Pomona highly recruit Cal Poly Pomona engineers.</p>
<p>UC Riverside engineering department is also well-respected for its small size, and it’s really great for computer science. In their computer science department, they focus on both theoretical and hands-on experiment, so they are more likely to get recruited by bigger companies. Their research is sponsored by companies including Intel, Qualcomm, AT&T, Aerospace Corp., Hewlett-Packard, Phillips, AT&T, Aerospace Corp., Hewlett-Packard, Philips, and Motorola, so they have connections to those companies. My friend’s uncle was recruited by Phillips after majoring in computer Science at UCR.</p>
<p>UCM is a new school, so their engineering department is not accredited yet. But they tend to focus on engineering department. UCM will soon be accredited though. Some of the advantages of going to UCM is that they have really small class sizes, in which you can interact more with the faculty members. Their faculty members are also top-notch professors who are interested in each student’s success.</p>
<p>If I were you, I would choose UCR because of their really good computer science program.</p>
