Computer Science Major Mount Holyoke

Has anyone taken or is now taking a computer science major at Mount Holyoke?
What are the classes like?

What specifically do you want to know about the classes?

@MHCstudent101 What is your major? Do you know whether it is easy to find internship for CS major? or how easy is it to find internship in general? -thx

Not comfortable sharing that.

It is pretty easy as a CS major to get an internship as the industry was hiring a lot. I’ve heard it’s gotten harder this year in comparison to the years previous as people did not get the internships they normal do from the Grace Hopper Conference. Not sure if it’s because not many went, the industry is hiring less, or the people are not as strong programmers anymore. The major has grower a ton, so the average quality of a CS major at MoHo has gone down from what I understand. However, If you’re 1/2 way decent, you’re definitely landing a junior year internship and job. The people who haven’t landed things are generally the people who seriously struggled through the classes and should have dropped it a long time ago.

The CS department at MHC is really supportive and people have much better “job” outcomes than what I have seen of some of the other 5 college students. People end up at Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs Technology, etc after graduation. I am not sure about the amount of support for students interested in academia in the department, but I’ve heard of people going on for PhDs too, so I’m sure it is decent.

I have a lot of CS major/minor friends so quite familiar with the department.

For all majors…it really depends what you’re looking for, how proactive you are, etc. CS is a much more formalized internship/job hunt compared to say an art history major looking at museums. It’s really an apples to oranges comparison.

I’m not sure if I answered your question. Please feel free to ask anymore. I remember reading college confidential when I was a senior in high school, so want to help out.
