So I have a 2260 SAT single sitting (second time i took sats, 800 CR, 780 Math, 680 Writing) and a 4.10 GPA out of 4.3. I have decent, diverse, and relevant extracurriculars and I wrote unique and (hopefully) good essays. Full stats available on request!!
Basically I’m applying to schools for computer science and digital media (ED to UPenn’s digital media design program). I was wondering where else I should apply! I see the appeal in liberal arts colleges, however there aren’t many that have a distinct cs program.
Other schools I’m looking at:
Wesleyan University (doesn’t have a widely recognized cs program but this is an exception: it’s a great film school and i like the vibes!)
University of Southern California (great for cs and media, but a little too far from my east coast home)
Northeastern
Harvey Mudd
Carnegie Mellon
Cornell
NYU
I’m searching for other cs/media schools that would be matches/reaches for me! ANY help is very much appreciated
GA Tech would appear to fit your criteria. Good luck on Penn!
Note that many schools, especially in STEM programs, will not even look at your writing SAT, so you will come in as a 1580 candidate, near perfect. Congratulations on the excellent SAT.
I’ve always had a weird mix of interests, so I actually feel like a liberal arts college (that’s especially strong in CS/media) would be perfect for me! But most LAC’s don’t have great CS programs. I applied to HMU because I’ve heard it has a good cs program and I could also try to take classes at claremont mckenna or pomona for my more artistic side
Georgia Tech seems really cool! I’m looking into it now, thank you!!
I’m not sure what your criteria for this is. By all indications, some LACs, at a minimum, have certainly endeavored to create comprehensive CS programs for their students. Professors from these schools, for example, appear to be the first to have actively designed a model computer science curriculum for liberal arts colleges:
Swarthmore
Williams
Hamilton
Amherst
Vassar
Grinnell
Washington & Lee
Colgate
Denison
Allegheny
Bowdoin
UT-Austin*
Nazareth*
(List updated to include members of the Liberal Arts Computer Science Consortium beyond the original nine.)
merc81, these schools all seem really cool!! Do you happen to know if any of them also have notable film/media programs? I know I can do more of my own research to find out, but hey I might as well ask
Look at all of them. Swarthmore, Hamilton, Amherst and Vassar seem to have generally solid programs for what you are looking for. The emphases of these colleges’ programs may differ, but digital media will be part of all of their curricula. Their facilities may be state-of-the-art in some cases.
