Having a tough time choosing between Notre Dame and UT Austin. Really like the culture, volunteer opportunities, and environment at Notre Dame but worry the Computer Science program is not as highly regarded with less research opportunities. In addition, feel like there may be less companies recruiting there for comp sci. UT Austin has a great program and good campus feel, but feel like it may be more of a factory and less about the individual. Any perspectives?
Notre Dame is a fantastic school with a gorgeous campus and great student culture. CS, however, really feels like an afterthought there. The admissions office has brochures for every department and major, but CS warrents only a line or two at the back of the engineering brochure.
If you are a Texas resident, I wouldn’t think twice about UT Austin for CS. I love ND and have encouraged other posters to attend there when it made sense financially and for their major, but CS grads are highly employable even without the big name brand.
UT Austin is one of the top universities in the country for CS, while ND is somewhere in the middle of the pack or lower. The is no competition whatsoever.
@CJPHBP Have you been admitted from the waiting list? Notre Dame’s RD enrollment confirmation date was May 1st, what is the date you’ll need to confirm by?
