My parents are willing to pay 25k per year. Where can I get substantially large merit aid or free ride? My stats:
California resident, SAT 2300, SAT math 800, UGPA3.93, WGPA 4.88, 15 APs, NMSF, National AP Scholar, Nordstrom scholarship winner, research, above average EC, etc.
You should take a look at UT Dallas for their NM Scholarship (unless you need to go to a school with a football team) http://honors.utdallas.edu/nmsp
complete coverage of UT Dallas tuition and mandatory fees for eight semesters (confirmed that you can use this scholarship for grad school if you finish undergrad in less than 8 semesters)
a $4,000 per semester cash stipend to defray the costs of books, supplies, and other expenses
a $1,500 per semester housing stipend for students living on campus,
So that’s $11,000 year. Room and Board is $9,944 and Books and supplies are $1,200 = $11,144
That’s only $144 a year (or $72 a semester) short of a full ride!
plus there’s the one-time award of up to $6,000 for an international study abroad program after completion of two academic years in residence.
How about Barrett Honors at ASU? also look at University of Arizona . If you want to explore the midwest, there’s Kansas State University and University of Kansas. There’s Iowa and Minnesota, although I am not sure how much merit they give.
Unless things have changed, Minnesota will give the Gold scholarship (I believe now $12,000) and an additional $1,000 p/year for NMFs. My 2nd son (who was a National Merit Finalist) is currently a CS student at University of Alabama and is getting an excellent education. I have heard that silicon valley companies hire many interns from Santa Clara and USC so if you are seriously considering CS, those are a good option. (Although they do hire interns from all over, including in my son’s case, from UA.) Good luck.
