Hi guys. I am currently a sophomore from New York and I am wondering about which colleges with a CS major I would be able to get into. I dont care about fit or the location just now I just would like to have a broad list of the best CS schools that I can possibly get into and then I could narrow down the last later. I have a 3.5 UW GPA and a 3.8 weighted GPA. I took the SAT this year and received a 1820 and I will take it again next year hoping to get 1900+. I am a black male and my freshman year classes were
Honors Geometry with a B-(the main reason for my low GPA)
English Language Arts 9 A,
Honors Biology B+,
Spanish 2 A-,
Social Studies Global 1 A,
Computer Science 1 and 2 A+.
Sophomore classes
Algebra 2/Trig so far with an A+,
Chemistry A-,
Spanish 3 B,
Honors World History 2 A+,
English 10 A-,
Computer Graphics/Web Design A+.
Next year im planning on taking
Honors US History,
AP Computer Science,
Honors Pre Cal,
Physics,
English 11 or maybe AP lit.
Class rank is 100 out of 480. The price of the school isnt a problem. Thanks.

Try improving your class rank…that always helps. Your SAT will likely improve; you’re only a sophomore. Also take the ACT, but use a practice book first because it is a different test and the science section will be new to you.
Do you attend a private school? your ranking seems a bit low for a public with that GPA.
That said, if you continue to do well, you’ll likely be welcomed at many, many schools. Black males are highly desirable on college campuses.
Are you saying that your parents will pay $60k+ per year at any school? If so, super.
Good luck!
You’re a sophomore; your SAT score and GPA are very likely to improve if you work hard. The best computer science schools will be hard to direct you towards at the moment due to your SAT score. You should really strive for a 1450+ based on the Critical Reading and Math sections (with a high score 700+ in SAT Math). Do some light looking around and think for now about schools in NY or NJ such as RIT or NJIT or Stevens until your score gets above where you want.
I don’t think you could get into an elite school with your current grades and scores, but you could get into plenty of very good, respectable CS programs. That includes most, if not all, of the SUNYs. I just took a quick look at Binghamton because it has a good reputation for CS, and your grades and scores as they stand now look like they’d get you admitted. There are about a thousand other places like that you could go.
