Computer Science Schools

Hey,

I have a 4.1(uw)/4.3 GPA and a 31 ACT(32 superscore).
I am looking for schools on the east coast that are strong in Computer Science...
Any Suggestions?

Here are a few (based solely on your academic credentials):
*(Safeties) Worcester Polytechnic Institute, UMass-Amherst
*(Matches) Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Northeastern, UMaryland-College Park (could be a safety, I don’t know much about their admission stats)
*(Reaches) We have MIT =). Carnegie Mellon is also there if you’re willing to go into Pennsylvania.

Also, please let us know the following:
*Where exactly on the east coast are you looking to be? The North (like Boston and what-nots) is very different from the mid-atlantic area.
*What do your finances look like? (nothing specific, just let us know if you qualify for aid or not, and how much your parents are willing to contribute) Some schools are notoriously stingy with their money (cough Carnegie Mellon cough)
*Beyond Comp Sci, what else are you looking for in a school? Some of the above mentioned schools have a party scene, others are in a city, etc.
*For a major like comp sci, your gender is also pretty important (I’m thinking you’re a guy based off of your username, but please confirm that)
*Info about your extracurriculars. It does make a difference at the schools I mentioned above in terms of admission and merit money.

so your uwtd is a 4.1 out of 5.0? if so, I think @violet1996’s list is a good one. However, CMU and MIT are not possibilities in this universe, I don’t think. more specifics from you could help. Run the net price calculators on V’s list. If you don’t know what they are, ask us.

Could CMU be feasible with a 32? I know MIT is probably out of the question.

CMU CS is one of the tops in the country (along with MIT, Stanford, and Cal; I would include Illinois there as well). It’s probably just as hard to get in to CMU for CS as MIT. Maybe only a little bit easier, but I’m not sure about that.

I’m not infallible, but I’d say it’s more likely to snow here in DC tomorrow. With all those 33-36s in front of you, why would CMU or MIT take you? Give them a rationale, but I don’t see one.

CS is not an impacted major at U Maryland, which helps with admission Good choice if you want to focus on cyber security. Would add NC State as well - top 20 CS program, beautiful newer campus with small business incubator - but would apply early.

I second UMD but then I have a child there. Great compsci and it’s in a college with the natural sciences. It’s math heavy.

Have you run the net price calculators for any of these schools? No point listing the ones your family cannot afford.
