Computer Science

Our course selection came on Tuesday and it says that there's computer science as an elective. I want to take AP Computer Science in the future, so I know that computer science (elective) will help me. For people who have taken computer science: how hard is it? What would I be learning in computer science and would knowing Algebra 2 make computer science easier? I talked to the cumputer science teacher and he said I'd only have to know the quadratic formula/equation. I still want your opinions, though.

Computer Science is easy, but make sure that the course that you’re taking starts with an intro to computer science.

The course is basically a prequisite for AP Computer Science, so I guess it’s an intro to computer science. Do you reccomend taking a summer course to make computer science easier?

Bump…

No, you really should be fine without a summer course if you’re taking an intro/prereq class. Maybe try to introduce yourself to coding a little bit, but CS intro classes are always ridiculously easy as they baby everyone into programming.

You don’t need a summer course, it’ll be easy enough that you’ll be fine.

Thanks!! By the way, have any of you guys taken computer science or AP computer science?

Yeah, I took the AP test last year, it was pretty easy.

I’m taking AP Comp Sci right now with VERY LITTLE prior programming experience. It’s a fairly easy class, and the concepts are easy to grasp (I have a 96 average). I suggest skipping the intro-class as well, if you can.

Sent from my SGH-T959V using CC App

I’m taking IB Computer Science, but I’m not in the IB program.

The class is easy as hell (at least for me). A couple others are struggling with it though. I think computer science either clicks with you or doesn’t. There’s really no in-between haha.

IMO, definitely skip the Intro class and take the AP class, especially if you’re really interested in Comp Sci  And…Algebra II will barely be used.

Programming is the modern nature of the world; learn it. :)

Umm I started programming when I was like 12. Programming helps a lot with divergent thinking in my opinion, which helps me a lot on the mathematics AMC exam and the ACT Science section xD

Thanks for the great input!!! I just wanted to add that intro to computer science is a prequisite for AP computer science. I’m glad to know that computer science isn’t as hard as everyone says it is. ColumbianX, what AMC books did you use to prepare? I’m planning on taking it myself in the future…

Bump…
