Computer Science

Hello,

I was just wondering... What language does a computer science major learn at UCI? Or what is more preferred?

Thanks!

They changed it this year. First your going to learn python which is ICS 31, 32 and 33. Then you will learn java for the majority of your courses. They do have classes that teach in C++

Thank you, but I think the classes you are referring to are CSE 31, 32, and 33? I checked ICS 21’s syllabi from two different professors and they both start with Java.

I also have another question. I’ve never taken physics before and I didn’t get placed into physics 7c (I got placed in 2). According to the website, I could take physics 3a-b-c or physics 2, 7c, and 7d/e with labs. Which would you recommend me take?

Take the easiest one you can that satisfies your requirements. Get as high of a GPA as possible and focus your efforts elsewhere(join a few clubs relevant to your interests for example)

unless you took the last ics21 this summer or have taken the AP cs exam. you cannot do the ics 20 series since they are discontinuing it. The last ics 22 class will be this fall and the last ics23 class will be this winter.
