Computers for Undergraduate Engineers

<p>Hey, I'm currently shopping for my computer for my first year of college. I've been looking at the HP ENVY Spectre XT. It's 13" (1366x768), 4gb ram, 128gb SSD and is pretty light. It has a new 3rd gen. intel i5 processor.</p>

<p>Would this be sufficient do you think for an engineering major? I'll be getting an external hard drive to back-up and might get an external dvd drive as well.</p>

<p>If not, any other recommendations?</p>

<p>I personally favor the ThinkPad line, and I’ve heard that most engineers do as well. They tend to have higher-end price tags though, so there’s that.
Basically, you need to be able to run the standard lineup of engineering programs. Your choice isn’t too bad, if that one is what you like.</p>
