Computers

Hi all (if there's anyone out there... this forum has been dormant for a while!). S is getting ready to start at DU in the fall, and we have some questions about computers. I wasn't sure whether to post here or in the "computers" forum, but since this is specific to DU requirements, I decided on here.

S will be majoring in CS/Game Design. He will obviously be taking a lot of programming classes, but also some art classes. The CS and engineering school seems to prefer PC/Windows machines, but the art department clearly prefers Macs. So, what should he get for his laptop? Mac with virtual Windows software? Or PC with really good graphics?

Any ideas?

Hi Sweetbeat. My son used a Windows-based H-P laptop during his freshmen year and will keep it starting his sophomore season. He’s said a lot of students do have Macs.

From the web site: “What type of computer am I required to have?
Please visit the University Technology Services site for the latest information on laptop requirements for the Computer Science department and Engineering departments. You do not have to worry about buying/installing software until you arrive on campus. We will inform you as to what software to buy, where to go for the best pricing, and what we will provide free access to in the classes that need the software.”

Also email the CS school for specifics for your son’s concentration.
