The Department of Information Technology at the USMMA has received notice that the company awarded the competitive bid to provide laptop computers for the Plebe Class, will be unable to meet the specifications of the bid. An attempt by the Academy and the U.S. General Services Administration to resolve the issues presented by this procurement proved unsuccessful.

A second procurement has been initiated.

There may be a delay in issuing laptop computers to members of the Plebe Class. Academic department chairs and faculty have been notified, and expectations will be modified accordingly.

Bummer!
2010 computers were originally scheduled for issuance July 26, but felt likely to be rescheduled for the week of July 17. With the process looking like a restart, delivery date sounds like it may be after classes start.
Email sooner would have been nice. Class notes and internet search are also helpful. Not so sure about FaceBook.
Hopefully, the next lowest bidder will respond very quickly.

Good news for the Class of 2010 and their parents! Computers are now expected by July 21, in time for the start of classes.
From the USMMA Parents page:
"The Fedbid.com reverse auction service, operated by the U.S. General Services Administration, has informed the Academy that the low bid was submitted by Dell. The Dell D520 is identical in to the Lenovo 3000 N100. Delivery of the Dell D520 laptops is expected on or before July 21, 2006."
