Does anyone know if the computer model will be included with our orders on May 1st? Or if it has been released already?

I asked someone about the computers for next year at an open house and I am 99% sure he said a HP but I am not sure what kind of HP he said.

Are you ever aloud to bring your own computer to the Academy like a desktop or anything because I thought I saw a computer screen in one of the plebes room when I went to the open house.

95% sure it won't be mentioned on your orders, actually 100% sure.

2009 got gateways, the new CIO wants to get top tier computers, gateways, dells, etc. I imagine HP is up there as I have seen some of their stuff and it is nice.

When you came during open house we were recognized, so he was allowed the extra screen, I am pretty sure your not allowed to have it as a plebe, I knew no one that did. Your computer should be enough, I don't think you will get anything worse then ours.

For the past several years, the laptops have all be last-minute "surprises" as they negotiate for the best deal for 300+ computers. They have to withstand significant abuse from travel (sea time) and general student wear and tear - especially viruses. You are pretty busy through parent's weekend. Then you can have your family bring whatever you feel you can't live without - don't sweat it until then. But don't buy anything in the meantime - that's what your big fee is for as an incoming student.

When does the info packet with the book come?

Should come soon.

Also, about computers, I recommend getting an external hard drive (over 100GB) for storage of music, photos, video, and to back up your computer from time to time. I have all of my mp3s, photos, and random KP vids on my external and it keeps my computer running well. Also, you never know what is going to happen to your laptop and if you back it up you won't have to worry when the IT people erase the hard drive...like they did to mine!

I second that, get an external hard drive. Ask to get it as an early birthday/christmas present if you don't have one. My roomate lost all of his stuff in January, just before midterms. BACKUP OFTEN!

I should ask it for parents weekend?? or before that?

parents weekend would be a good time, that's when i got mine
