For those of you first years that are going to bring both (as I did):

Bring a router if you want to use both simultaneously on the internet. The dorms only have as many ethernet ports as there are people, so unless your roommate(s) doesnt bring a computer (fat chance), you'll need a router to connect with both at the same time. There is a decent wireless D-Link one that is $20 at most places FYI.

i think i'll be buying a laptop but im very confused

how does one get 'dell coupons' ?

and does anybody know what the difference is between the latitude and inspiron line, y are the latitudes much more expensive, for similar specs

and finally has any1 heard of 'averatec' laptops i stumbled upon one on cnet reviews and they seem to be good buys and portable but i've never heard of the company

to your question about the difference between latitudes and inspirons, latitudes are geared more for businesses whereas inspirons are for home use.
" Features of the Latitude laptop and the Optiplex desktop have been pre-configured as a standard to meet a minimum 3 year lifecycle demand of our business units. Every department has the opportunity to review, suggest changes and approve our standards. The Latitude or Optiplex contain more baseline features than the home market inspiron or dimension. Components, features and configurations of the Latitude and Optiplex lines change every few months. Price drops on a regular basis. Prices, components, features and configurations of the Inspiron laptop and dimension desktop vary widely from week to week. It is highly unlikely that we could get a single better PC and price in the inspiron or dimension lines than through our Latitude and Optiplex standards."

the problem is, dell doesn't have many coupons that work on latitudes or else everyone would be all over them.
