computers

i was just curious, how many of you are bringing laptops and how many are bringing desktops to berkeley?

i for one will be haulin up my inspiron 6000 :) you gotta love those dell coupons.

Bringing my powerbook to Berk :)

I just got meself one of 'dem tablet pc's.. it's yet to arrive, but I'm hoping for the best... so.. LAPTOP.

I'm trying to decide. I've been using PC desktops my entire life, but i'll probably try a lap top that has more power than portability and try to get used to the smaller, more annoying keyboards.

Bringing my new laptop with it's lovely built-in wireless :)

In the process of building my own desktop... the price/performance ratio of laptops sucks. Granted you get the portability, but it's a price I'm willing to pay.

Bringin my new laptop with wireless (so I can connect into Cal's wireless network the first day without the In-Room Connection hassle)...though it does mean going to the 3rd, 5th, or 7th floor in Unit 2.

Just purchased a cheap dell pc, for the price it cant be beat.

laptop or desktop waglo, and what kind?

its a desktop, here are the specs:

Dimension 4700
2.8ghz p4
512mb ddr2 mem
80gb hd
48x cd-rom
17 in dell lcd
free printer included
integrated audio+video

it was 419$ but after tax and shipping it was 489$, I only plan on using it for typing up reports and the internet so those specs are all I need.

i have to choose laptop before my mom gets mad at me again for avoiding the topic all summer long.. theres just so many damn choices!

get a dell using one of those coupons, you can get $750 off of a $1500 laptop, it's a pretty sweet deal.

yeah, but can you add on great specs and is there any quality?

yeah of course, you just have to be patient and wait for the good deals to come around

he's right, paying full price for a dell = big mistake

Well, some people say paying anything for a dell is one.

Dell laptops have that cheap plastic feel. That's just my opinion. Apple laptops have better build quality and a sturdier feel overall. Of course, that is also reflected on the price, but if that isn't a factor then a mac is the way to go (at least it was for me).

Am I the only one bring both? lol

self-build PC and a Dell 700m

A few months ago my dad got me a dell 600m, what a bust. It sucked so it was returned for a cool Fujistu I saw at Fry's. It was 2x more in price, but much, much lighter and didn't come with all the junk software on the hard drive.

Yeah, the junk software will kill you. They suck out so much memory that the performance of these pre-installed machines are actually significantly weaker than what they say on the box.
