<p>I was planning on bringing a desktop to Princeton; it's relatively new and in good working order, but it is Windows Vista, not Windows 7. I also have an Acer mini netbook, which is Windows XP. Both have Webroot security installed.</p>
<p>Is this combination acceptable? Also, what kind of software, if any, would I need to purchase in order to update my desktop, as (I hope) it will be my primary computer? I'm planning to do AB, probably in the EEB department. </p>
<p>I personally prefer to work on a desktop when doing internet research, typing papers, etc. but my netbook is easy to carry around to take notes at classes and so on. I don't really see the need to invest in a new Macbook Pro or other similar model, but I wanted to double check with some of you who may be more experienced.</p>
<p>not a fan of the AMD processor or 32 bit vista OS, you don’t need a desktop unless you plan on doing some serious PC gaming</p>
<p>i agree that working with a desktop is easier because of the keyboard and monitor, etc. So what I did is I got a high performing 13" laptop and getting a monitor / keyboard for my room so i can just hook it up to that when im in the dorm</p>
<p>and MBP’s are ridiculously expensive, i nabbed the Asus U30JC for $800 + $160 for a new SSD and I have a similarly performing setup with a higher performance to price ratio</p>
<p>Disregard that ^. AMD processor and such will be perfectly fine for work. Investment in a “high performance” laptop (such as a macbook) that are suggested tend to be rather expensive. There are great laptops that are cheap; however, your netbook should be great for taking notes. I understand why you’d prefer a desktop for writing papers, and I don’t understand the general affectation towards “ONE LAPTOP”. So, what I’m saying is * don’t waste your money. Your computers are perfectly fine. *</p>
