<p>If a high school nominates a student for one of these medals/awards, does the student automatically get the medal/award or is there some sort of narrrowing process that RIT goes through so that only a few students actually end up getting the medal/award?</p>

<p>I think that the award is in fact awarded to the nominated student from each participating school. </p>
<p>Keep in mind that these awards don’t “stack” with other merit money. My S got the Computing Medal but with his test scores we knew that he was guaranteed a higher merit award than that anyhow, so it was really just a nice “honor” and not of any financial benefit. He did get a nice actual medal.</p>
