comsci or computer engineering?

I'm kinda worried thinking about this - due to random stuff, I can either take computer science at UCI or do computer engineering (possibly computer science engineering) at UCD.

I wanted that engineering background, especially after going this far in physics, UCI told me that I might not be able to change majors since anyone >90 units gets a major change on an appeal basis.

What then? Is it really going to make that big of a difference? One of my friends studied EE and works as a programmer now lol. He said he'd go for comsci if he had to do it again, but I'm not sure I want to sacrifice the title >>

There really is no difference between the careers that you will have latter on, the jobs are more or less exchangeable and there is only a slight difference in the training that it focuses on. Computer Engineering tends to focus more on lower level development that interfaces directly between the hardware and software, whereas Computer Science is a little higher as their developers tend to focus on applications that interface with other computer systems and the users.

UCI and UCD are identical in their rankings so it’s not like going to one or the other is going to improve your opportunity later on and if the jobs are identical between the majors, really the only difference is going to be the upper division requirements. Look at the upper division requirements and classes at the two schools, decide which one has more interesting classes, unless other factors are at play like finances or regional preferences.

it’s literally a quarter of classes difference between the two. CS is easier to get into because it’s not impacted most of the times.
