I'm a junior at a very competitive top high school in NYC with above-average but not necessarily flawless stats (94.5 UW GPA; school avg is 91). I'm looking at schools like Chicago, Brown, Tufts, Vassar, Oberlin, Williams, Swarthmore, etc.

I'm torn between taking Con Law or Philosophy as my social studies elective next year (all senior classes are electives). Both of these are fairly difficult honors courses, and I would enjoy both of them equally. Does one seem better than the other for college? I think either might make sense with the rest of my application -- Philosophy might tie in with my proposed Classics major and my love of English/language/pretentious things in general, while Con Law would fit in with my three years on Mock Trial.

Some of my friends have said "Philosophy will look like a bs course" but I don't know if that's true...
