Should I take a writing or English course for law school?

I am a philosophy major with a communications minor (after this summer). I'm also working on a classics minor which includes the study of Latin.
I am a rising junior doing a summer term currently.
I'm trying to take as many of the courses that help you with critical reasoning in law school as I can without killing my GPA (which is a 3.6 by the way and on the rise).
Currently, I have a communications paper that I'm working on for publication in a state journal for scholars. If I can't get it published there I'll submit to the undergrad journal at my institution for review.
Do I need to take an English or writing course for law school? Oh, also my sights aren't set too highly. I would be fine going to University of FL law school, but my dream schools are Duke, Vandy, or Boston Law. But it wouldn't crush me should I not make my goal into these schools.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

In terms of admission, I don’t think it matters. And in terms of practicality, I think that as a philosophy major you should get enough writing experience such that it’s unnecessary. But it definitely wouldn’t hurt.

Also, if you could give any tips to better my chances that would help too!
I am also engaging in an internship with a non-profit this summer. I am doing mostly clerical work and would be open to the possibility of going into law for non-profits.

Did you take the LSAT? That is probably the most important factor whether you get in Law School or not. I would suppose a competitive student in philosophy would be well-armed in the logics department, so you will do fine because half of the test will be on logics.

I am actually double majoring in communication studies right now the same time as I am in Law School and I found it extremely useful (and interesting) especially in rhetorics

BEngineer, how are you able to double major while in law school? I’ve never heard of any law school that would allow that, nor would most law students have the time to do it. Are you studying outside of North America?

BEngineer is not in law school yet.

Don’t worry about it–only a minority of lawyers know how to read or write, and you will not learn how to do so just by taking one or two courses in “English” or “Writing.”

Are you kidding? You are not going to survive 1L without knowing how to write. You definitely will not be making law review, journal or have any success in moot court competitions. Your first year, you are going to be taking legal writing, and yes, you will have to know grammar and how to bluebook. The topic of knowing how to write as a lawyer was recently discussed in this thread.
