I looked up Hendrix on College Results-- College Results Online --and found that abut 61 percent of students graduate in 4 years and 68 in 5. Now, I've heard many good things about Hendrix--I'm at a State school and looking to transfer--so why is the drop-out rate high? Can any current students check in, complain, and share?

Dogbody, my DD graduated from Hendrix in May after four years there. She absolutely loved it. I don’t know the statistics in terms of why people leave Hendrix (or any other school), but my daughter had a couple of friends that left after sophomore or junior year due to lack of money.

How long have you been at the state school? I’ve been told Hendrix isn’t kind to transfers.

That said, Hendrix is really expensive (cheaper than most similar schools, but expensive in Arkansas) and pretty intense. I don’t know if a lot of people who leave Hendrix have problems with the school itself. It’s mostly grades, finance or personal problems, I usually see.

You had me thinking so I looked up the retention rate at comparable schools. Hendrix is a little lower, but not significantly. Southwestern (TX) is at 64% and 76% which is about the same for the other LACs I looked at. By comparison, the state school I attended is 31% and 54%.

I wouldn’t worry that it’s significantly lower than comparable schools and you’re not likely to get anything here other than personal, individual opinions of why friends drop out.

I agree with the above on transfers. It seems that merit aid is predominately directed toward new students rather than transfers.

Good luck.
