How Immigrants Actually Reduce Crime - Newsweek

I wanted to know the opinions of my future fellow Berkeley colleagues on the article above, Personally I thought:

Hmm the person
writing this article didn't make a distinction between legal immigrants
and illegal immigrants. Even if the studies show that places with lots
...of immigrants caused a reduction in the crime rate, a study should be
done to see the effect illegal immigration has on our economy and
safety. It took my parents fifteen years before they were allowed to
become full fledged citizens of this beautiful nation, thus the idea of
automatic amnesty to illegal immigrants seems unfair and sends a message
"If you follow the laws, it will take you many years to achieve the
same status of American citizens, but if you break the laws and don't
get caught, you may have to wait less." That to me seems to be a bad
message to send since it perpetuates the old saying of good law abiding
people finish last. We all want to escape the horrible religious and
economic persecutions of our mother countries, but to allow some
immigrants better privileges over others seems to send a bad message
about America's "fairness" and "equality". I realize giving amnesty will
help us tabulate and record illegal aliens, but it's not right to
reward those that broke the law.
