Hi-
My son is attending Concord Academy next Fall in the ninth grade as a boarder. Does anyone have any advice- classes? Boarding life?
I think you have posted in the wrong section. There is a boarding school section somewhere. Look in the subtopics under http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/prep-school-admissions/
Concord is unique in one facet of boarding school (at least at the schools we looked at) - dorms are closed to students during the day.
If you look at posts here people have written about supplies, life at boarding schools etc.
Hey! This is super late but I am actually a rising senior at Concord. Advice would be to prepare for the very active social atmosphere here – it is very very liberal. Classes are also really hard but since freshman year grades don’t count at CA, I would advise your child to go for the classes that seem super cool (although he might not be familiar with said topic in that class) because the teachers here are literally amazing. Boarding life is also fun but it can become a bubble after a while, which can definately cause sadness (lots of people here get homesick and with the hard work, it’s not surprising) so I would tell your child to make good use of resources, like their advisor, guidance counselors and peers. The boarding community is also very supportive and looking at heads of houses and the head of boarders and Vice head of boarders is extremely helpful! Also, remember to pack lots of good snacks because the food here can be kind of iffy at times. But it is very fun here and I hope your child is excited to be joining us!
Hi! I am a rising sophomore at CA, and advice I would give for incoming freshmen is to take classes that seem fun and interesting to you, even if you’ve never tried them! That goes for sports and arts too. CA has a really great music program if you are into that too! and being on a team is one of the most exciting things on campus - it helps to make friends too, even though practically everyone at CA is super friendly
