Today, I was accepted to UC Santa Barbara. I’m ashamed to admit that 9 years ago, I failed my courses at a University in Arizona. My transcript from that school shows that I was suspended because of it.
Now, I see on the portal under conditions of admission “No transcripts may indicate dismissal, probation, or other restrictions…”
On my application, I did list all of the F grades I received back then. I did not however indicate that this led to suspension. (I actually had not realized until recently that I had been suspended - I had simply decided not to return for the next year and didn’t look at those transcripts).
I’m presently at a community college and am in good standing.
Will my acceptance be rescinded because of this? Would any of the UCs be forgiving of this?
the people that know work in UCSB admissions. You should be on the phone or send them an email today. This isn’t going to go away if you don’t contact them. Hopefully it doesn’t matter and they can change your conditions of admission letter.
Best thing to do I think is contact them and be honest about how you hadn’t noticed it on your transcript since it was so long ago. Also how that led you to not mention it on your UC application. Basically, explain your situation. Actually, I’m not sure if the UC application lets you even notify them of this? I’m not too sure. Wishing you the best and I hope they can help you out. Keep us posted if you can.
According to what the UCs say academic probation only applies to a UC you might have previously attended (or possibly a current college, I imagine). There are many ppl who apply successfully with Fs and Da at previous schools (hence they are also on academic probation there). Contact them but I’m pretty sure they don’t care about the transcript from 9 years ago.
An update: I finally got through to them today. The lady on the phone was friendly and said the purpose of that was to be sure that the school was willing to send them my transcripts. She said further “You were very forthcoming about those grades in your application. We decided you met all the requirements and we look forward to seeing you in the fall”
