Confidential Info Supplements

Hey. I've applied for a few scholarships here and there and I've begun to notice that some of them require info such as FAFSA reports, parent's tax returns, etc. to verify your financial state. I am wondering if anybody else has come across this too and what do you guys do with some of the information on these forms such as SSN and what not? Do you guys just white out the first two parts of the number and leave the last four digits? I might sound naive but any help would be appreciated.

I don't think the colleges are aiming to steal/illegally use your personal information...

Actually, at my school, all the teachers/counselors (yes, I do know all of them because my school is super small) recommend to even write the SSN on all the app forms so that there's no confusion about who is applying...One time, they sent in a rec for this girl six times and the college mixed up her name with someone else's and kept phoning that they didn't have her rec; would not have happened if SSN were on it.

As for other scholarships, not sure, but still don't think that they're going to steal/sell/illegally use your SSN or other data for that matter...especially if they've been there a long time...

Thank you for responding. I am not referring to school scholarships. I am referring to independent outside scholarships such as those found on fastweb.com or what not. How would you go about dealing with those is my question or concern?
