I was just looking for a chance me/confirmation that I have enough safety and target schools as well as my chances at these schools.
Stats:
ACT: 32
GPA: 3.96 UW, 4.7 W
All IB classes, 4 HL including Math (4 on IB chemistry)
White female from Illinois looking to major in business. Would ideally like some merit aid but have enough to cover around 30-38k a year.
activities: I work as a hostess 2 days a week (worked about 15 hours a week over the summer), worked for my parent’s company in data entry for around 20 hours a week this summer, formed a flag football club at my school, president of Ronald McDonald Teen Advisory Board at the House, assistant editor of yearbook, co-president of NHS, basketball (9-10), soccer (10-11), golf (9,10,11), choir (9-10), took a business analytical class at a college near my house for a week the summer between sophomore and junior year. I also have around 150 hours of service.
My essay is on my love of football (sounds strange, I know) and how I started the club at my school and how my life practically revolves around the sport even though I am a girl.
colleges:
University of Florida
U of Illinois
University of Miami (FL)
Ohio State University
University of Minnesota
Eckerd College
Vanderbilt University (reach)
University of Texas (reach)
If you are relying on merit aid, it might turn out that none of your colleges are affordable. Check out U of Alabama, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Florida State, Texas Tech, Mississippi.
If you love football, you need to have Alabama on your list. With a 32 ACT you’ll qualify for merit aid which will leave your cost at about $17,000/year.
I was considering applying to Alabama, but I’m not sure if I would love the feel of the school, even with the football aspect. I also visited Miami University in Ohio and did not like the feel
If you can put it into words, tell us some of the things you didn’t like. That will help people give you recommendations for schools that might be a better fit for you.
okay, so I visited UGA in the fall and didn’t LOVE the school. I think it was because of how the campus was laid out, but I loved the whole college football and student life experience even though I do not want to go Greek. I have visited many different types of schools including small private (U of Chicago, Eckerd), medium sized (Miami of Ohio, U of Tampa), and big state school (U of I, Florida) and even though I liked Eckerd, my favorite schools have been U of I and Florida so far. I think I would like to go to a big public school (even though I didn’t love UGA), and so far I really like UF and U of I but I am not sure if Florida will give any merit aid (I haven’t heard that they give anything) but can afford U of I.
UCF would be a good safety for you. They have a really great business college, a good business incubation program, and there a tuition wavers for oos students. Since the school is in Orlando, there are lots of internship opportunities too and many students are able to get great jobs right out of college. I actually know someone that graduated from UCF and got a job a the Tampa branch of Pricewaterhousecoopers straight out of college.
Eckerd is a match with top merit aid for your stats, no football. It is interesting that this is an outlier on your list of schools. If you have questions about the school, you can PM me. Both of my kids graduated from Eckerd, one went to law school, the other is in vet school.
