confirmation

after we mail out the thingy that says we're going to caltech for sure, do we get some sort of confirmation to make sure the school got it, etc etc

^ I was wondering this myself... I haven't heard anything yet.

yeah you do, I got something in the mail

(if it's a $500 deposit, do you ever get it back?)

I wish it would come! I'm terrified of getting an email may 2nd or something thats like "because we have not received a response from you we are withdrawing your admission..."!!

Assuming you wrote a check for the deposit, you can watch your bank account to see when it's cashed.

I think they probably send something though.

I believe the deposit amount is added to your account so it pays for tuition, etc.. But no, you don't ever physically get it back.

Yeah, you get a letter that says "We are happy that you will be joining us in September..." or something like that. :)

I called the admissions office with the same question. They told me to wait three to four days for my letter to reach Pasadena from Chicago, then call them to confirm that they have received it.

The $500 is not a deposit, but a "nonfundable matriculation fee." Translation? 1) You will not get it back. 2) It will not be applied toward the regular fees.

Wow. Did they really change that? I'm pretty sure for us two years ago that they reduced the first tuition by $500.

I just e-mailed finaid to check on the $500 and will post as soon as I hear back from them. I also asked whether the health insurance was a one-time charge or an annual charge. My husband and I nearly fainted when we saw the cost of the mandatory health insurance. It would be seem much more reasonable if it were the cost for four years.

when do you have to send in the $500 deposit?

what about international students? do we get any notification? I know my enrollment for has been received on Tuesday (signed by J. GARCIA) because I used an express service.
I guess there's nothing to worry about.

Ordinaryyellow, you have to send it in by May 1st! So, I'd advise doing that ASAP. As for me, I'm living in Norcal and I sent my decision to attend Caltech a week ago, but according to my parents, the check hasn't been cashed yet. Should I just call Caltech to confirm? I know I might be being silly, but I just want to make sure.

Update: I talked to the people in admissions who do a marvelous job with the paperwork and they said you will receive a letter confirming our receipt of your decision; and if we do NOT get a response from you, you will also get a letter to this effect. So there are two checks in place. You should get the letters soon, but if you are still worried then you should feel free to call the office and ask.

hey, start posting when you get ur confirmation letters. i sent mine out like a week ago, still no letter....

I just called undergraduate admissions and asked if they received my letter. They just asked for my name and birthdate and kindly told me that it had been receieved :)

I got mine a couple days ago.

it turned out that i didn't need to send in a $500 matriculation fee because i'm international and i got financial aid

ordinaryyellow, how did you find out that they've got your letter?
