LOL we're back to the old cross admits theme are we? How original :D

Its called "playing trump!"

My cousin at Harvard told me that the food there tastes really bad, the professors are never around to help students, there are barely any social opportunities available on campus, and that squirrels and other rodents are slowly and surely invading the school. T

Then, I asked her if she regrets selecting Harvard and she ironically responded no. "Once I get out of this ****hole of a college after undergrad, I will be able to take advantage of the name prestige that it offers for the rest of my life and therefore live happy!!!" were her exact words I think.

Harvard is indeed the ultimate trump card Byerly. ;)

Harvard is the ultimate overrated education, that's what.

As for Byerly, well, "second choice" (that's a quote of you, not me) is a very ambiguous term considering my personal situation. And considering that you also know nothing about that, your ad hominem comment is out of order. Should I be honored that you went through my old posts to find out my early school?

And as for your duck of my undergraduate education comment, well, that's what it is. You seem unable to offer a defense of a education that really isn't one: it's a loose, politicized collection of knowledge. Shouldn't the nation's best learn something of value? And you bash Ross Douthat as a bitter social wannabe.

By posting the good ol' cross admit data, you are more or less conceding that the education itself is mediocre and highly overrated.

And your insistence on terming me "zepher" only further discredits the education at Harvard. Here in Palo Alto, we at least know how to spell.

Hmmm! Maybe I should take back the 'nice kid' part!

"Reputation" is not a measure of quality. All talk of cross admit data depends on the perceptions of kids not even out of high school, so you'd do well to keep the "two month out of high school" part off the table. In any case, this odious popularism dressed up as statistics is irrelevant.

u claim that harvard's undergraduate education is severely lacking...huh? wheres ur proof? and how do u know ur not just over-hyping stanford's strengths. maybe its stanford that is lacking...

and...btw, who cares? ur school is what? 4th in the country according to some ranking? wat is ur deal?

Well what is your deal, Shrek, by being a "Princeton troll" as Byerly said you are? Your agenda, with a slight difference, is the same as mine.

As for Byerly, well, I consider myself a nice kid. I just enjoy intelligent debate, that's all.

Everyone on this forum's hyping up their own school. That's perfectly natural, and it just goes to show that no matter where you end up, you'll somehow find a way to be content with where you are. There's nothing wrong with school pride, as long as it doesn't lead to unnecessary and excessive bashing of other schools (which unforunately occurs quite often here on CC).

i cant believe you guys actually care whether your school is 1st 2nd or 3rd in this stupid ranking. hyps all have great reputations and great programs for a lot of stuff. each school is stronger than the other 3 for some stuff and weaker for other things.
byerly- we're used to you now. so you can go on *****ing about pton and yale and glorifying harvard, nobody really cares anumore
but zephyr- plz dont do the same thing with stanford. just like shrek said:"ur school is what? 4th in the country according to some ranking? wat is ur deal?" Is your need for justification so great that you feel obliged to vaunt stanford's strengths on all CC boards? everyone knows stanford is a nice school, so drop it.

lol how am i a princeton troll? unlike u and byerly, i dont go to other school forums and talk crap about their schools to make mine sound better. i could honestly care less if pton were ranked 1st or 4th or even 10. i love pton and id be going there anyways

Or 44, I believe, in the Washington Monthly Rankings :p

I agree with Shrek. My view is that the schools in the top 10 only have marginal differences among them. Even these differences are diluted when you realize that any student who busts his ass can move up from there. Will a student who works hard at Yale do significantly different than a student who works hard at Harvard or Princeton? I don't think so.

I think rankings are good when you view schools as categorically arranged, 1-10 being in a comparable strata, 5-15 being in a strata, and 10-20 being in a strata.

Comparing miniscule differences between Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Tech, and MIT is useless, and also, btw, ********.

Oh yeah, add Stanfard in the list above.

nice :D. that shut'em up!

USNWR is baloney. I'm not saying that Princeton isn't the top all-around school (I believe it probably is), but these rankings aren't to be taken seriously. I mean, they put UPenn as number 4 and UChicago at, like, 17.

they're useful for the data, if nothing else.

Regardless of the rankings, if you attend a college that has a "name" it will undoubtedly help you. I find differences in the top five rankings to be negligible.
