Confused about JHU Aid

My Aid report gives these four numbers:

Current Cost of Attendance Estimate
Aid Amount
Amount Paid to Date
Amount Scheduled for Payment

But Aid Amount + Amount Scheduled for Payment does not equal Current Cost of Attendance Estimate! The Estimate is about $14000 higher. Why is that? Shouldn't they be equal?

You are expected to pay the difference.

Either your EFC (Expected Family Contribution) was 14,000. Or it was lower and your full need has not been met.

Oh maybe I am misunderstanding your post. I would expect the aid plus amount scheduled for payment to = COA. Is it perhaps the amount due to be paid just for the first semester? Or do they expect you to pay over a certain schedule?
