I have been confused about my college major for quite some time. I am a very introverted person but love to help others, investigate things, learn languages, engage in challenging tasks, and analyze information. I am currently a public health major I do not really like it because the courses are too easy and I have no idea what to do with it. I am worried that I will be stuck in a job that involves lots of contact with people and I will hate it. I have thought about going into computer science but I do not know if that would be fulfilling for me. I have taken many career tests and I come up as either as a ISTJ or INTJ. Any suggestions would be helpful.
How about work for the CDC or similar agency as a public health analyst?
That’s a good suggestion.
Can you not take computer science, statistics, and GIS courses while pursuing a public health major? That would not only help career prospects within the field, but would also allow you to expand beyond just the qualitative surveying.
Do you feel that you can handle the computer science subjects?
You might want to make an appointment with career services and discuss public health career options that fit your personality. How about a double major in public health and economics?
I recommend against double majoring. It is good to have more freedom in your schedule, and it is more impressive to do one thing well.
Do you have any CS coursework under your belt already? If not, do you have enough lead time to fulfill three reqs in time to graduate?
