Confused about my application status

I submitted my application before the Jan 20 deadline for University of Maryland. Everything was submitted except one of my two required teacher recommendations. This did not get submitted until exactly 14 days after the deadline, but the website still said my application was successfully submitted, even before the recommendation got in. But it’s been over a month since the recommendation was submitted, and I haven’t heard anything from the college. I can’t even figure out how to check the status online. The only thing I can do is “view application” where I can’t make any changes and it says “Thank you for applying to the University of Maryland! We will begin processing your application for review on the next business day.” But it hasn’t changed since I submitted the application itself around 2 months ago (before the deadline). Shouldn’t it have something on the status of my application? The website says that you’re supposed to be able to check the status. I am starting to think that my application is not being processed at all because the recommendation was late. Otherwise wouldn’t something have been updated? Another thing that I’m confused about is how all of a sudden it says my application was only completed yesterday, but I know that can’t be true because I’ve checked my application multiple times before yesterday and it always told me it was complete. I didn’t even log onto the site yesterday.

EDIT: Ignore the thing about the application only being completed yesterday, I just read something on the site that said “In addition, please note that our system updates daily and the application status completion date noted at left reflects today’s calendar date, which may be different from the actual date your application and all supporting documents were submitted.”

I’m going to assume that you’re talking about UMD.

When they say “check the status” - they are only referring to what documents have been received and processed. Not if your app is in the review process.

No, it’s one thing if you didn’t submit the main part of your app by the deadline. They have a bit of leniency with other materials (ex. test scores, recs)

Here’s what’s important: on the portal, does it say something like, “Teacher Recommendation: received”? if it’s there along with all your other materials, then yes, your app will be processed.

Not trying to sound rude, but it took three months for the Priority applicants to get anything back. It makes sense that you haven’t heard anything from UMD yet if you’re a regular applicant. How early you submit the app doesn’t affect how quickly they’ll get to it - when you submit your app, they were reviewing the priority applicants.

If you check the website, it will tell you that you’ll hear back by April 1st. It’s March 8th now, so you still have a little less than a month before they tell you anything.
