They ask me to complete 2 courses in English composition, 1 course in intermediate algebra or higher, and 4 transferable college courses in at least two of the following subject areas: arts and humanities, social and behavioral sciences, physical and biological sciences.

Isn't this redundant if i'm transferring from UCR, since they "encourage" you to complete your current UC's GE.

I'm trying to figure out exactly what I need to get into UCLA for next Fall (2011) as a Political Science major (my current GPA is 3.747) and my current academic advisor is useless, so I have some other questions:

The AP US and Comparative Government exams do satisfy the lower division requirements for Political Science at UCR, but not at UCLA.These are the four lower division courses I need to take for UCLA:

-introduction to political theory
-international relations/world politics
-introduction to American government/politics
-introduction to comparative politics

Since they don't accept the AP exams, and I only completed World Politics.

Am I screwed?

I still need to take 3 of the 4 lower division requirements in the next 3 academic quarters ALONG WITH MY GE requirements. At this point should I switch to History? Their lower division requirements are easier.

You only have to take intermediate alg and not college level math? Is that the UC to UC breadth requirement?
I don’t understand your first question, is what redundant?

On their transfer website they list those courses as the first bullet and then tell you to complete your current UC GE as second bullet, but the two more or less cross paths.

And the thing is I don’t have to take ANY math(well, I had to take a Computer Science class) to complete my GE at UCR as a POLITICAL SCIENCE major. So do I now have to take an intermediate algebra class?

And is it possible to take a prerequisite class the summer prior to the Fall? There is no way i’m going to be able to take Introduction to Political Theory during the school year( they never offer it).

I would imagine you’d have to AT LEAST take Alg 2 because you need to be eligible for whatever they call polisci 3 (berk) at UCLA. In fact, i’d be surprised if you didn’t have to take a college level math to transfer like we do (precal, stats etc).

If your school doesn’t offer a prereq there’s nothing you can do short of dual enrollment at a local CCC that does. I got into UCLA without theory.

i’m in the exact same situation as you. i am a UCR political science major that is trying to transfer to UCLA. it is my understanding that you must take a math class specifically for UCLA. so for us i think it is Math 5. i know its hard to complete all requirements, but you gotta do what you gotta do, especially since poli sci is so competitive.

oh and courses you take prior to fall are also taken into consideration so definitely take a class at a cc if you can.

I’m not sure about Math 15. Not too familiar with it.

And yeah its kinda whack but I retook American Government (POSC 10), and I am going to retake Comp Gov. (Posc 15 or 17) in the winter. You would probably need to take these classes (again) in order to stay competitive for UCLA.
