Today my daughter was checking her admission status online and saw that she was at Step 4 - Communicate Admission Decision, saying that a letter was mailed today. There's no step 5 - accept admission decision, or whatever. A peculiar thing was that she'd only applied for 1 major (biomedical engineering), no 2nd choice. But suddenly today, the online form shows General Studies as 1st choice and Biomedical Engineering as 2nd. This was confusing to us; she called the admissions office thinking they'd just tell her the decision over the phone. They wouldn't. She asked them if she should assume that she wasn't admitted, since there was no step 5. The lady told her no, she shouldn't assume that and that sometimes it takes a while for the site to be updated completely. This doesn't sound right to us, and my daughter is sure that she's been denied.

Can anyone here explain this to us? We'd thought that regardless of the decision, she'd just be able to see it online.

Thanks!

If she can accept, she has def. been admitted! Unfortunately, she was not admitted to her major, it sounds like. But if she can hit the button to accept admission, she is in the general studies area!

No, she can't accept -- there's no step 5 (which is accept decision). We think that means she's been denied. But the admissions lady said, not necessarily, but that the site may not be completely updated yet. This makes no sense to me. But it also makes no sense to me that the final decision wouldn't be posted online.

I don't think you should worry just yet. I don't think step 5 will show till later. I am on step 3 and I can't even see the step 5 thing yet but i do see the step 4 thing.

@jay: When did your daughter's decision show up on the application? Date?

Was she regularly logging in to her app?

Yes, she's been checking her application status at least twice daily since she applied in late Oct. The change in her choice of majors appeared on the morning of 3/26, and Step 4 appeared in the afternoon (3/26).

jay, just a heads up. It took TWO WEEKS for my letter to come snail mail once I was accepted, and I live four hours from TAMU.

Aah when will I get my decision?????

@jay: Was your daughter notified via email that the application has been updated? Should I wait for an email or continue to check http://applicant.tamu.edu 10-15 times a day?

Bandnerd -- Two weeks?!!! This is unbelievable. But, congratulations to you!

gibbusoft-- I think you'll hear really soon. My daughter was hearing yesterday about friends whose decisions just came in. Hang in there.

UThopeful -- So, you're at Step 4? A letter is on its way? Please post when you see step 5.

This wait has taken its toll on my daughter's enthusiasm for A&M. She's been accepted to Baylor's engineering school, and she thinks she'd rather start there if A&M offers her Gen Studies.

Thanks for all your replies.

Jay, one of my friends gave up waiting on A&M and decided that OU was the place to be. Stopped wearing TAMU shirts, went up to OU again, etc. She was done! THEN, she got accepted into TAMU a couple of weeks ago and bang! Out went the OU shirts, back came the TAMU! It was actually pretty funny! Good luck to your daughter!

@Jay: Can you please post your daughter's SAT scores, high school GPA and extra curriculars?

I have a 1650 on the SAT (1140, CR+M) and a 3.71 GPA. Will I be accepted for Computer Science (Dept. of Engineering)?

Bandnerd, that's too funny about your friend! My daughter went out to her car and removed the A&M sticker. She's now wearing Baylor t-shirts, but hasn't taken the A&M stuff of her bedroom walls, yet.
