Confused on my major... Philosophy or Business in Marketing?

I’ve been struggling to discover a major that I enjoy. I value happiness as the main ingredient to my life. I am currently am attending Community College. I’ve taken a year off to dive into a career path that I believed I was suited in, Photography. I gained real world experience. But, I lost interest and wouldn’t mind doing side gigs here and there for money. I gained employment experience in Photography Studios.

I’ve always been interested in thinking differently and not following the norms of society. I’ve always put myself in difficult situations in order to discover my being. I believe that I do not have a particular passion besides pondering on my own existence. I am currently a Business concentrated in Marketing major. I enjoy the internship I have with a Marketing Agency and I love the environment. I love the people and things I do. I am being trained to earn my SEO Specialist certificate within the company. I enjoy Digital Marketing. But, I wouldn’t like to study business as a main major. I’ve always been fond of self-taught education.

I’ve pondered and researched on being a Philosophy Major. People have claimed it to be a lesser value compared to other majors. I’m not looking at Philosophy as a face value perspective of what people see it. I take the fundamental ideas of skills to think analytically and outside of the box as more an importance than the technical skills. I admire people who speaks articulately through the use of intellectual word choices, experiences, and ideas from many subjects. I admire people who are a renaissance man.

I’ve read many stories and took on the idea that a focused major doesn’t define your career goals. So, what is your opinion on majoring in Philosophy to have a career in business and hopefully expanding my own future personal ventures. Or would it be wise to continue to majoring in Business? My girlfriend tells me it would be useless. So, I’m reaching out to a bigger audience to hear opinions outside of my current environment.

Thank you!

Since you asked, I suggest staying the course with business and taking philosophy courses as electives or a minor. Have you looked at what kinds of seminars or other events you might be able to attend in the philosophy department since you clearly have a strong interest in learning more about philosophy.
