I am going to take marketing as my major and will be doing undergrad and then go for an MBA too. Both from reputed universities. I was wondering if the field that I want to go in is really worth it? I have strong leadership and problem-solving skills. Can I, in about. 15-20 years, be more successful (salary-wise and lifestyle-wise) than my peers who’ve taken Engineering or other majors?
True reward (including financial) comes from following ones passion. You’ll make tons of money if you love what you do and are great at it (and it is necessary). I suggest you read Jim Collins’ book Good To Great. You’ll likely have to read it in the marketing world anyway so get a jump start. Hopefully it will give you some perspective.
