confused! requirement of supplement essay

Rice supp essay asks applicants what perspectives they can contribute to life at Rice. I wrote about my experienceS in an organization and the MANY learning points I took back from my experienceS. But I was reading a few successful essays just now and I realized all of them talked about one SINGLE experience and did not really explicitly state the perspective. I'm really confused now. Are we supposed to write one single experience? Must we state directly the perspective?

for my essay, I did not state what perspective I would bring. I just talked about how I am a unique person and my experiences miinistering in Africa have shaped my life and enhanced some of my other qualities. Basically, talk about something that makes you unique. I think ONE single experience is common but several (in a concise 2-3 page paper) giving a lot of detail and insight to who you are would be great.

Did you respond to "What perspective do you feel that you will contribute to life at Rice?"?

Don't look at other people's essays. Unless you have some sort of brain disorder, your interpretation of the prompt should be valid.

Hmm.. Now I'm abit worried about the essay. Mine seems to fit the genre of "why this major" or "why Rice" essay more than a personal statement. Should I rewrite it?

Dou, I am pretty sure whatever experiences you wrote about is perfectly applicable. Just because other people have talked about one experience does not mean you can only talk about one experience. There are multiple ways of attacking a prompt like this one.

i talked about several parts of my life, not just one experience. i felt right doing this for the rice supplement essay, somehow. the perspective i bring to rice, after all, does have many different facets...
