Perspective Essay

Hey guys, I'm a Rice applicant this year and having major issues with the "What perspective do you think you will contribute to life at Rice" prompt. I wrote an essay with a few anecdotes telling how they represent my philosophy towards life and etc, but when I showed it to my English teacher she thought it didn't address the prompt specifically enough. So I just wanted to ask: do you think they view the prompt more generally, and accept any essay that tells them your worldview, or do they want it to be more specific and address your cultural and unique upbringing? How do you guys interpret this essay prompt?

I interpreted this as a somewhat general prompt. I didn’t provide an explicit answer to the question. I decided that the prompt was just Rice’s way of telling you to write an essay that illustrates in some way who you are as a person. I believe the idea is that you will contribute to campus just by being yourself, so they want you to describe who you really are.

What makes you different and unique.

^ anything that fits that, works
