this is a typical chance thread except for the fact that i'm not sure what kind of schools i should be chanced for :|
i am nearing the end of my sophomore year and need to decide what sort of schools i want to visit/think about for the future.
my freshman gpa was really poor. i was just very lazy and had overall all bs and b+s, ending with a 3.5 gpa that haunts me to this day. i was taking the most difficult courseload possible (all honors). sophomore year i was in all honors (pre calc, chem, english) and AP us history which is a 2 year course at my school. im getting As except for a b+ in apush and i think a b in math cause my teacher is from cornell and super strict. my courseload for next year is ap us history 2, ap calc ab, ap econ, and ap english ( not sure if lang or lit i think its the harder one). psat i didnt study for and got a 194. for junior year i'm aiming for a 223+, same for SAT but cant say anything for certain.
extracurricular wise i play lacrosse and field hockey. field hockey i am quitting cause i just dont like it and i'm focusing on other ecs. lacrosse i will most likely be on varsity junior and senior year. i am a student council rep, currently running for secretary. was french club rep for 2 years and have the presidency basically in the bag for at least senior year hopefully junior year as well. i plan on doing newspaper junior and senior year in hopes of becoming some sort of editor. i have also been active in art and piano for 8+ years. piano i have won a few competitions and have an honorable mention in the world competition from like 6th grade though does that still count..? i havent really had that much time to seriously prepare for competitions since high school began. i'm also in interact club (community service).

i am a veteran johns hopkins cty-er and went to the program for 3 straight years and will be attending harvard ssp this year which i found out for a fact has a 25% acceptance rate for those of you who see it as something that everyone gets into in addition to many of the applicants being self-selected (motivated applicants).
my guidance counselour pushes me to apply to ivy leagues like princeton, columbia, and upenn but i really don't see that as being feasible. i personally was thinking more along the lines of duke, usc, georgetown. i'm from the northeast. small public school that is top 30 in one of the states composing the tri state area.
not that i will entirely base my college decisions off of the opinions of people i have never met, but what are some reach schools for me?
