Confusion about Priority Application deadline.

I’m applying to Texas as an OOS applicant and I am confused about the admissions process. I have yet to send my application in (refining it) but I am worried that my application will not be processed in time. The longhorns website states it’ll take 2-3 business for the application receipt to come in. Does this mean I have to have the receipt by Oct 15th in order to qualify for priority (BHP) or can I submit my application on the 13th or 14th even though the receipt will come most likely after the deadline?

Once you submit the applytexas app, you should get the ut log in either same day or within a couple of days. My S got his same day in August. If you have already sent your transcript, your test scores, etc. you should see them when you log in. The rest of the application goes fairly quickly. Most people applying by October 15 are applying for an honors program. Those could go slow or fast depending on you. Also- you need to upload any letters of recommendation. If you get all of that done by October 15, then I think that would be considered meeting the deadline.

That is a lot to do considering it is October 12. You have cut it very close, but really there is not a huge advantage to applying early other than a chance you will hear back earlier.

Thanks for your input. The reason I ask is because I can not send my transcripts nor my test scores because I have to submit my essays and other parts of my application first. Are you sure its not the date of which the application is submitted that dictates whether it fits under priority or regular?

The priority date seems to only apply to honors programs only. I have not seen anything to indicate that applying by October 15 without applying to honors results in an earlier answer.

Here is what Plan II says:

"Plan II Honors recommended application completion date. It is NOT a deadline–nothing closes or cuts-off on October 15. Plan II conducts rolling admissions. Plan II reviews applications in the order that the applications are completed. The later an applicant completes the application, the later that application will be reviewed. Because we will have been offering admission to complete applicants beginning in October, there will be fewer spots available later in the cycle when the applications completed closer to the December 1 deadline are reivewed. Fewer available spaces means a lower likelihood of admission. Competition will be stiffer as fewer spots are available. "

It appears to be saying that the application complete date is what matters and by that I would interpret it to mean honors application complete.

Think about it this way- you complete your application tomorrow and don’t send your test scores or transcripts in until end of the month- do you think that would qualify as having met a deadline? I don’t see what good it does to get your application in without the other essential items needed to evaluate you.

The OP specified that he is applying to BHP which is an Honors Program (Business). OP, you should submit your application ASAP, like today. Also submit all the other pieces you have control over today - SAT/ ACT, transcript - hopefully your school submits these online. LOR - get is ASAP - but this is not in your control unless you asked them weeks ago to write for you and you gave them the Oct 15th deadline. The “priority” deadline does exactly this - gets you to do all those things that complete your application.

Here is what BHP says:

Students who complete their application on or before October 15 will be read first by the admissions committee. This first group of applicants will receive communication before the regular decision pool. Students who applied by the early deadline will be evaluated under the same criteria as students who have applied by the regular deadline of December 1. The possibility of admission will neither be negatively or positively influenced because the file was submitted under the early deadline. The benefit to apply by the early deadline is earlier notification of the status of your application.
