Confusion about SAT Score Deadline Dates

Today on College Board, I went to send my SAT and SAT subject test scores to schools, and on the side it told me that some schools I'm applying to have deadlines such as the 31st of December. Does this mean the college must receive the scores from College Board on the 31st, or only that I must tell College Board to send them out by the 31st? Thanks in advance for the help!

I’m interested in this as well.

I am not sure what CB is referring to. There are actually some (small number of) colleges that require test scores in their hands before the end of December but the only ones I can think of offhand are California State Colleges (not the UCs) which have end of November application deadlines and take test scores only through the November testing date (and I believe for those you just self-report them on the application and send them only if you did not have them when you made the application). However, there may be a handful of others. Usually though, as to colleges that have end of Dec/early Jan application deadlines, you have two general categories: (a) those which take test scores through the December test dates which can arrive after the application deadline; (b) those that even take the January test date and thus if you send December scores now they will get there even before the last possible test date that can be used for admission. Ultimately you should check with colleges of your choice but I suspect CB’s message is partly designed to warn you that for many colleges you should at least order your scores sent regular delivery before December 31 and partly designed to generate income from rushed scores ordered by panicky seniors who see that unexplained message on the site.

is this for dec scores? i thought they couldn’t be sent out until 2mrw?

^? December SAT scores came out last week and you could have ordered them sent by now.

I sort of found something that answered my own question, at least for the school that I was confused about (University of Florida). These are just their rules but maybe it’ll help the rest of you that also wanted to know this sort of information:

“Please make sure that all required materials such as application fee, high school transcripts and test scores have been received. If we are missing something, please check with your high school guidance counselor or testing service as soon as possible to make sure that materials will arrive by the end of December. Any missing materials will delay an admissions decision.”

So, looks like I have to pay extra for rush delivery of scores after all. : ( I kind of can’t believe that regular shipping takes four weeks in this day and age, but whatever.

Just to ask something further:

So if I requested for rush delivery of my scores to colleges now, will it arrive on time?

Most of my colleges accept Jan scores, except for one that only accepts until December. But these ARE my December scores.
