Confusion about Visas

Okay, so currently I hold an H-4 visa, as a family member of an H-1b visa holder. I'm also a Canadian citizen, but live in California.

As an H-4 visa holder, I cannot legally hold employment in the United States (yeah, sucks). But I want to work in college!

So apparently most colleges will issue out student visas to international students, etc, except Canadian students don't need to obtain a student visa before attending the college.

Does this mean I'm stuck with my H-4 visa for college? Meaning I can't work in college, either?

Thanks!

PS. Is it possible for me to get a green card without my family? Once I turn 18, for example? Apparently there are some issues with my dad getting his green card and it's going to take us a while - he doesn't think we'll even get it before I end college. I, of course, want to work after college....

I don't know about the case of Canada, but, in general, you are considered as International Students, and so, all international students are issued F-1 Student Visas (Can't say what happens when you already have an H-1b Visa)...
Barium will help you with proper information..
