Confusion...

All right, I'll most likely embark on a very long tangent soon, but bear with me. I've been feeling really confused lately because I don't feel like I have one passion. I'm one of those people who are interested in doing so many different things, and unable to decide which one is right for me. I'm not sure if that made much sense. I guess what I'm trying to ask is, how do you know whether you have a passion or not?
I'm not one of those people whose parents have guided them into doing something since young, so I've had to find my passion. Also, I know this will sound ridiculous but, is it too late to embark on something totally different? I'm only 16, and until recently I've been very studious, shy, quiet and concentrated on academics, but I feel like a performing arts and loud person is just begging to come out? Is it too late? Can I really be in the performing arts or entertainment if I'm shy? Is it too late to pursue that road? And, I wouldn't be a true CCer if I didn't ask this, how will top colleges react to this? Will they be okay if I didn't discover my passion at the beginning, or even before, high school? Well, I'll stop but if you managed to understand me and my extremely long post, please offer some advice.

as a hardcore theatre kid, i have to say GO TRY OUT FOR SHOWS. see if that's what you like. i know three kids who'd never done theatre previously-- last year they were in their first shows, and this year they're trying out for everything, getting parts, working backstage.... it's such a wonderful thing when people figure out that they love it. and i love seeing it happen. and honestly, you don't HAVE to be loud to be a theatre person, as long as you can bring it onstage.
and i can't see schools having a problem with this. i know this is very CC-ey, but i think that would make a great essay-- shows you're willing to try new things and go after something you're curious about, &etc. but don't sacrifice other things you're interested in!

Thanks for the advice! Yes, that would make for a very interesting essay. Always thinking as a CCer, I see. Any more advice?!

go for it!!! better than staying home and studying for some test

I agree, poloruler23! That's what I'm doing right now; what were the odds?!

Try out!!!

Theatre is so amazing. Even if you're in the ensemble, you meet the most awesome people.

Even if it doesn't end up being your passion, it's still really fun to do. ^_^

The only thing better than theater, for me, is choir.

And choir is the only reason I make it through the day. I love it.

then sing, damn it, and sing some more whenever life gets you down.

damn it.

Well, my voice is a little rusty. Is that okay? Acting and dancing are more my thing, especially acting. Also, is it okay if I haven't had any theater, dancing, or acting experience? Is it too late? I feel weird asking that question at 16! I'm planning on taking dance classes soon, though.

dude ur 16 u can change ur course in whichever direction you want....when you're 19/20 then maybe come and post (hopefully u wont) here with fear.

go out and have fun

if you live near a city, chances are there are some drop-in dance classes you can check out, even if the year has already started and so forth.

theatre people in my experience tend to be pretty willing to help you out or give some advice... at my school, there's always a theatre teacher or senior student director who's more than happy to help you prepare for an audition. so go see what's up in your school theatre and ask around a little. def not too late.

You don't need a 'passion.' That's something made up by CCers to make themselves feel better about their applications.

Sure, you can have a passion. It's hypocritical CC logic. Only focus on one thing in your extracurriculars, and be diverse and open to things at the same time.

Do whatever you want. More interests is better than just one or two any day IMO.

It's never too late!!

Like deenierah said, there's almost always someone willing to help you out.

Also, take drama if your school offers it. Or join the choir. Private lessons are VERY expensive if you get a teacher who knows what they're doing, so don't bother with one until you're SURE it's what you want to do.

<<<i'm one="" of="" those="" people="" who="" are="" interested="" in="" doing="" so="" many="" different="" things,="" and="" unable="" to="" decide="" which="" is="" right="" for="" me.="">>></i'm>

Easy. Go for the one that pays the most. It's called the harsh reality of life.

Meanwhile however, you should explore everything you like during high school, enjoy yourself, etc. But for a serious career, I would suggest going for the most profitable one if indeed, you are interested in many subjects.
