As always, here to answer questions about Pitzer/Claremont.

Really stupid question: Is it pronounced Pit ser?

Next stupid question: Is there a mascot?

Are there learning communities?

Yes, it is pronounced the way it is spelled. "Pit-Zer"
Yes, there is a mascot, the mighty fighting Sagehen.
They don't really have learning communities. However, there are some faculty living on campus.

Do you think Pitzer would be a good choice for a very shy person?

you gotta give a little bit more than that...

How are the new dorms? Are they as nice as they sound?

They are beautiful, idyllic, and extraordinarily environmentally friendly. There were a few kinks this past year (it took a while for all the furniture in the common rooms to arrive; the thermostats were weird for a while) but they are WONDERFUL. I lived there last year and loved it, and I'm living there next year.

Thanks for the info. My D is really looking forward to living there.

Awesome! You can let me know if you or she have any specific questions.

It seems that I read somewhere a more specific list of course requirements for admission to Pitzer, but now I can't find it. Something along the lines of:
one year of high school chemistry (rather than 3 years of science.) Or maybe it was specific to prospective Bio majors.

Do you know of a more specific list than that on the opening admissions page?

From the course catalog:
Continuing academic challenge is important and that challenge should continue throughout your senior year. Your studies should include a minimum of four years of English (especially courses that emphasize writing); three years of social and behavioral sciences; and three years each of a laboratory science and mathematics and three years of the same foreign language. We strongly recommend that you take advantage of honors and advanced placement courses offered at your school. All offers of admission are contingent upon continued academic excellence through completion of the senior year.

Here it says 3 years of lab science- if you saw something more specific it must be for a specific major.

thank you!

How much interaction with the other Claremont schools is there? I liked the student body of Pitzer the most but would like to spend time on the CMC and Harvey Mudd campuses for parties, for example.
