Congratulations to everyone accepted!!!

It's great to read about your good news! Sarah lawrence is a unique and beautiful place and my daughter could not be happier. Someone asked about the dorms. They are not the greatest at all, but somehow the kids all seem to be able to overlook that. Also, someone asked if a student could be happy there without alot of money. I would think so. The nearby city offers so much to do that really costs nothing at all. My daughter is home for Spring break right now and she says that most of the kids don't spend much at all. Honestly, it is a great place for a smart, creative student.

Thank you, poetsmom. I had asked about money. Truly, cannot believe how generous the finanial aid SLC offered. Any suggestions where to stay when visiting the school? For close proximity AND for cost efficiency?

HI Momray...congratulations to your daughter. I have stayed at 2 places when I stay near Sarah Lawrence. I don't recommend that you stay in New Rochelle hotels.

I have stayed at the Rye Town Hilton and it was close enough to school(driving) and ok at night by myself. Tell them you are visiting the college and they give you a discount.

Will your daughter be spending the night at the college. Mine did,so I went back to the hotel by myself and it was fine. There is a nice dining room, exercise area, and pool.

I hope you enjoy your stay. Don't forget to go into the little town of Bronxville. It is a nice little town with shops and restaurants. Maybe take the train into Manhattan from the Bronxville station so you and your daughter can get the real feel of the place.

I would like for her to stay on campus but we haven’t worked out the details. I’ll trust your judgement on feeling safe by myself. We are definitely from a small southern town!

You will feel safe at the Hilton in Rye Town. Sounds like you are a single mom too? What is your daughter interested in studying?

No…married 25 years. Husband has been extremely ill the past two years so making the trip solo. She’s studying English and Education. Wants to teach until a writing career takes off!

Momray, I really like the “wants to teach until a writing career takes off” bit. D likes to write herself, was accepted in SLC last year but chose to go to Mount Holyoke instead. S was accepted in SLC for Fall 2009 and I’m hoping he chooses it. He wants to take a social science course with dancing on the side, somewhat like Rahm Emanuel’s career path. And Rahm is SLC alumni.

I’m a student who just got accepted but I want to know, how solid are the financial aid offers? I just got a 75% Alumni Gift Aid from the College, but it says that I have to re-apply every year. My parents have no way to afford it without continuing aid, so I was wondering if anyone could tell me what my chances are of receiving aid throughout my 4 years. Thanks

Congratulations. I am just a parent, but I would call the Financial Aid Office and ask your question. I think that having to reapply is standard wherever you go. If I were you I would take one year at a time and go where you want to go. After all, isn’t life about taking one step at a tome towards your goals? Just my thoughts…

Question: It’s down to SLC and one other school for my son. The other school is 1/2 the $$. We did not apply for aid, and probably would not qualify, but my son would like to work and earn money. Can anyone answer how hard it is to get an on campus job for students who are not on FA?

Daughter and me toured SLC yesterday. Our tour guide is paid, but states she receives no financial aid. From what I understand, you must apply in September, right after arriving. No work available in cafeterias are they are provided exclusively by the service that provides food.
