Connecting Tulane e-mail to another e-mail?

Are we allowed to do this?
My high school's e-mail system is gmail based, which I linked to my own gmail for fast and efficient use. I guess I've been spoiled because Microsoft Outlook really...sucks.

Yes you can, leeduh. My s has his TU email forwarded to his gmail address.

How do you do this?

I just called him to ask him how. His response to me was “I’ll tell you in a week and a half after exams”. OK. I am glad his priorities are focused!

If you were able to do it with your HS email, woouldnt it be a similar process?

Good to hear, jym626. We will wait patiently. :)

Yeah
In Gmail you just go to settings and change it up. I have no idea where to find that option in Microsoft outlook.

Oops-- I mixed up leeduh’s and your post, nj_mom. Remind me to ask him again after exams. My memory is short!

I have a related question. When my son got his Gibson user id and password there was an email button at the top of the main screen (next to the log out button). Now the email button has disappeared. Anyone know why? Do you still have the email access from the main Gibson page?

Yeah it disappeared for me too. I guess it’ll come back once you go through orientation or something since there weren’t instructions on how to use the email. I got the address through someone on FB telling me what it would be based on my name

just go to owa.tulane.edu

I’ve been wondering how to forward my Tulane email to my Gmail account for the longest time because I hate how the Microsoft system doesn’t allow you to search your mail. I just figured it out:

Sign in to your Gmail account and click ‘Settings’ at the top right corner, then go to ‘Accounts and Import.’

Next to ‘Check mail using POP3,’ click ‘Add POP3 email account.’ Type in your account information.

Leave the POP Server settings unchanged.

You might want to check ‘Leave a copy of retrieved messages on the server’ as a backup. However, you’ll have to periodically sign in to your Tulane webmail to delete messages to ensure that your inbox doesn’t get full. Also, select ‘Always use a secure connection.’ Finally, select the option to label incoming messages, as it will make organizing your separate email accounts much easier.

If you would like to send an email from your Gmail account and make it appear as if you were sending it from your Tulane account, you can do so on the next page. After entering your information, select ‘Send through tulane.edu SMTP servers.’ The server name should say ‘smtp.tulane.edu.’ Use port 465 and check ‘Always use a secure connection.’

After verifying your Tulane account credentials you should be all set.

ok so how do you get to your email in general?..because there was a link on the gibson online for me originally but then it disappeared

I go to tulane.edu and click ‘webmail’ on the top right corner. I’m a freshman right now, so I don’t know whether they’re doing something different for incoming students.

I believe that once you tell them you are coming they switch you to another part of the system. But that was before this whole Gibson thing, so that could be wrong.

How do you link it to your yahoo email?

Email can be accessed via owa.tulane.edu or by tulane.edu/email and selecting the WaveMail {for emails received after the switchover - approximately the start of Fall 2010} or Tulane Webmail {for those received prior to said switchover}.

The WaveMail has a tutorial for sending email to other accounts {known as forwarding} under Help {the question mark in the upper-right hand corner} and then selecting “Use Rules to Automatically Forward Messages”. Here are the steps, verbatim:

1 - After you sign in to Outlook Web App, click Options > Create an Inbox Rule.
2 - On the Inbox Rules tab, click New.
3 - Under When the message arrives, select Apply to all messages.
4 - Under Do the following, select Redirect the message to.
5 - Select the address you want your mail sent to by double-clicking on it in the address book view. If the address you want to redirect to doesn’t appear, you can enter the e-mail address in the To field.
6 - Click OK to save your selections and return to the new rule window.
7 - Click Save to save your rule and return to the Inbox Rules tab.

This should work for all email redirections.

Hope this helps,

Hope those instructions (to an old theead) from a new poster are legit.
