So...
I really like columbia, and I hear that it's one of the most liberal colleges in the country. I'm not too actively political, but my ECs and upbringing definitely suggest conservatism (Catholic school, eagle scout, etc.)

Would this impact admissions in any way? Anyone have experience with this?

That “liberal” thing is an easy straw man that some circles like to foist on certain schools. Don’t believe it. The top colleges are uniformly excellent and attract a wide range of folks. Don’t worry.

Don’t worry at all. As T26E4 is suggesting, the top schools prize, and attempt to construct via admissions decisions, a diverse student body. That achieved diversity of the student body certainly includes those who are, in some ways, definitionally conservative. As for the application process: your having “conservative” politics and cultural pursuits is totally and COMPLETELY irrelevant to your admissions chances. If you end up matriculating at Columbia, you will not be the only conservative. I assure you!!

Not in the least. I’ve actively campaigned for a Republican presidential candidate and am on record in a magazine as supporting him, and I’m going to Columbia. There’s a very active conservative element at CU, so even overt conservatism is no negative. To think some activities may result in your rejection because they seem conservative is an unfounded fear.

Also, hurrah on the Eagle Scout from a fellow! What was your project?
