how liberal are these schools?

i'm just curious but how liberal is
Columbia?
Dartmouth?
Harvard?
NYU?
UC Berkeley?
UC LA?
UChicago?
UMich?
WashU?
Yale?

i'm pretty sure umich and ucberkeley are pretty liberal but i'm sure about the other ones. any response is appreciated!

Columbia, NYU, UMich, Berkeley=VERY liberal
The rest, not so much.

I would say NYU is apathetic.

Depends, how uptight are you? :)

What happened to choosing a school based on the quality of the educational program? Oh wait, nevermind, everything is 'liberal/conservative' now. Yellowstone better blow soon, it's getting unbearable.

First off, keep in mind that I generally think the whole liberal/conservative thing is overblown. But...

I know plenty of conservative people who went to Cal and had a really good experience. The general consensus is that the conservative student support base is quite good. Of course, my idea of "conservative" is more "libertarian," so YMMV.

In general, don't worry much about the "right/left" slant of an entire school. You'll really drive yourself nuts. Worry about the quality of education and MAYBE the student groups that are sympathetic to your interests.

But really, if you're conservative in the more contemporary sense (e.g. Moral Majority conservative), then you're in for a wild ride at most schools anyway...

personally i'm liberal, not liberal to the extreme but decently liberal. my intent really wasn't about choosing a school based on its political viewing, i was just plain curious. thanks for the responses tho.

NYU is socially liberal

UChicago is a bit more libertarian. They're generally seen as liberal on social issues, but a tad more conservative in economic issues.... they are considered to be the birthplace of alot of modern economic thought.
