Conservative Colleges (like Dartmouth?)

I hate when people judge conservatives as stupid and misguided. Being conservative does not mean you agree with george bush on every matter. It means that you are conservative on economic, foreign, and social policy.
For example, in my school. the top 10 students of our class are all conservatives. These are the kids with near 1600 SAT's, 4.0 GPAs, extremely active in the community, and are regarded as the geniuses of our school.

Anyways, I just wanted to know what are some of the highest ranked conservative colleges.

Davidson college is often referred to as the 'Dartmouth of the South'. A highly ranked LAC with a conservative(in the way you mean conservative) tilt.

One of my friends leans heavily towards the right.

He loathes LACs in general, but actually has positive words to say about Davidson.

I've been to the campus, as well. It's nice.

BTW- Dartmouth is not 'conservative'. Inthe last election over 3000 dartmouth students voted for Kerry vs. about 500 for bush according to a Dartmouth poll. Dartmouth once was conservative (in the 80s) but overall is far from it now. There is a vocal conservative minority (with a libertarian tilt) that exists, but the overall student body is much more liberal or moderate oriented, like the other Ivy Leagues. Also, the faculty is extremely liberal.

Yeah thats the truth...i don't know why people keep thinking that Dartmouth is so conservative...

No, no, Dartmouth is definitely liberal. Apart from the fact that we almost single-handedly won NH for Kerry, most of the conservatives I know end up talking politics with each other because most of the time whenever they start an argument with liberals they end up being outnumbered at least three to one. Many Dartmouth students are in favor of abortion, bigger government, etc. etc. Some are even considering moving to Canada because of the election!

With a few exceptions (mostly religious schools), every college in the country is liberal.

I would actually say the schools leans much more liberal/ moderate than conservative politically. Here is the poll from 2000, when Bush marketed himself as a "compassionate conservative". Even then Gore/ Nadar was over 72% vs Bush's 23%.

In 2000
<a href="http://www.thedartmouth.com/article.php?aid=2000110101060&sheadline=presidential%20poll&sauthor=&stext=%5B/url%5D">http://www.thedartmouth.com/article.php?aid=2000110101060&sheadline=presidential%20poll&sauthor=&stext=</a></p>

yeh...about what amused said...why is every college in the country liberal? What, is it just a change in temperature or something...you walk in thru the gates and suddenly the environment becomes unrepresentative of the real world...

College is really skewed in that sense because it really makes students feel like everyone in the country agrees with them...i think the last election really proved that wrong...

Alexandre, there is a strong conservative minority (driven by the review) who are both libertarian and conservative. There are also a fair share of famous conservative alumni such as Dinesh D'Souza. But the student body by a great majority overall leans liberal. So its far from a "conservative school".

BTW- Xantos, good call. I experienced the 3-1 myself too..
