What is the political atmosphere at Trinity like? Are students more conservative or liberal? In other words, would someone who is fed up with our current government's growing list of blunders and incompetencies find true happiness there? Or do most students even care?

Well, when I was on campus, there was a huge ad program for the Vagina Monologues---lots of people (guys and girls) wearing pink shirts that had some line on the front and "The Vagina Monologues" on the back, large posters in the student areas. This was something that would never happen at, say, TCU. I saw lots of leftover Kerry/Edwards stickers on the cars, but I did see some "W" stickers as well. It doesn't seem to be raging liberal, but not conservative, either. There are plently of classes on "Queer Theory," "Gender Studies in the 20th Century," etc.

I will tell you that many of the students appear to be really focused on their studies. Everyone I talked to mentioned the "Trinity Bubble"--so many people just stay on campus and study. However, TUVAC (Trinity U Volunteer Action Committee) is a HUGE organization on campus and many of the students appear to be involved with its various projects, which include everything from reading to children to petting pound puppies to homeless shelters and Habitat.

Lots of religious organizations, especially of the Christian kind, but they seem socially liberal--many of them revolve around volunteer service. Also, you've got your Jews, Muslims and Sikhs as well.

There is also a Lesiban, Gay, Bisexual & Straight Alliance! I find it very accepting of them to include straight people as well!!

In another thread, people have mentioned Trinity as somplace where you're not likely to see students with strange hair colors or piercings. How strong is this? Would someone who looks different totally not fit in?

When I was on the campus recently, I would say that most people seemed pretty "normal" looking. I would say that it tends towards the more conservative side but not in a close mided way. I think they are more open minded than some other campuses I looked into. I can say that as an international student (usual ear piercings and no tatoos) I felt I would be quite comfortable there. Students seem very nice there but then having been to Texas several times, I didn't see alot of strange piercings and very very tatooed people there in Texas in general. I liked the type of student body and found them very accepting. In fact they seemed pretty excited about international students. I made up my mind and Trinity is my home next September. I know a student of color there and she feels right at home she says.

I failed to mention that while I was there I went to a lecture on campus put on by the Sikh students and they brought in a couple of speakers as well as a professor and they spoke about how life has changed for them post 9-11 and they aren't even "the enemy". So they are open to explorations of the mind. Kinky Friedman was there too speaking and he is kind of off the wall.
