I feel pretty upset that my chance of staying in community college for 4 years are very likely. Currently I got a 2.7 GPA and I need a 3.0 GPA to transfer to a decent school in UC San Diego, Santa Barbara, or Irvine. I complete all my pre requiste by this Fall 2010. However, I screw myself so much that i won't be able to make that 3.0 GPA overall and get a 2.95 GPA by the end of Fall 2010. If I got below 3.0 GPA but complete all my pre requiste, can I still make it?

I'm in my third year of community college. Staying another year would be the last choice and dropping off college for trade school and military is not my option. I understand UC's is very tough and chance of me getting in is very low. So I wonder, does prestigious in school really matter? I apply for out of state and Cal state as well through.

I know I screw it up but what's done is done and there's I can do nothing about except right now. So what's my other options?

sort of the same situation except I still have to finish a lot of pre-requisites so my stay for the fourth year in CC will only mean finishing up pre-requisites.In your sitaution,I have to ask what is your major? If your major is unimpacted (say philosophy) then you might have a chance.the only advice I can give you is apply to the nearest Cal State in your CC area for they will most definetely accept you(hopefully).good luck! :)

I would say go for it anyway. I’m an English major applying to Berkeley and I met another English major last night at a dinner who also wanted to get into Berkeley, but had a GPA of 2.7. She did however go to UCSB. So why not try? It really depends on other things too and the fact that you’re finishing up all your prerequisites this semester will help greatly. Good luck and I hope you apply!

One of my good friends is sort of in the same situation, so you’re not alone. She is also considering a fourth year at cc. I think you should apply and hope for the best. If you don’t get into a UC, at least you tried. And just remember that it doesn’t really matter how long you’re at cc to the UC admissions people as long as you do well. Personally, if it was for my dream school, I’d just work hard for one more year at cc. One more year at cc might be worth it as opposed to two years at a school that you don’t really like (and that you would be paying thousands in tuition for).

yeah im in the same situation its like suck balls (sorry for the language) but i worked so hard this semester and im only shy 2 percentage points from my GPA i kinda want an answer too :(

Hey guys, just wondering, does prestigious in school are such a big factor in life that staying another year in community college to go on a better school worth it?

IDK why people think there are such huge differences in undergrad education. If you’re going to a top national research university, your undergrad will largely be the same. The atmosphere may be different but you’re still learning the same stuff in 300 person lecture halls.

The only occasion when undergrad prestige matters is law school. Top law schools really like to accept within the ivy-league.

While grad schools do not care what school you got your undergrad from, getting relevant experience from a lower tier school might be more difficult than at a research/top tier institution. I am not sure if I would have the opportunity to become a research assistant at SJSU or SFSU because not many faculty members are doing research compared to UCB or UCLA.
